Discovery Den

What Kids Love

In this calming, dimly lit retreat, kids slow down and focus. They can play a memory-matching game created in partnership with the University of Tampa or dig their hands in the sand at the Ocean Sandbox, reshaping white sand to form mountains, coastlines, and underwater landscapes. As they dig and sculpt, a living marine world appears instantly, with sea creatures swimming through projected waters and plants sprouting on land.

What Kids Learn

Discovery Den blends sensory-friendly design with cutting-edge technology. Children build memory, cooperation, and spatial reasoning while learning how landscapes shape ecosystems. The real-time transformation of sand into sea and land fosters awe, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of environmental systems.

This exhibit is intentionally small, dimly lit, and calming. It is sensory-friendly and well-suited for children who benefit from reduced noise and visual stimulation.
