Sensory Shaving Cream

Time for more sensory-friendly fun with Team GCM member, Jenna!

Materials:

  • Can of shaving cream
  • Flat, clean surface OR plastic table cloth
  • Optional: Food dye, assorted utensils
  • Paper towels

Directions:

  • Shake your can of shaving cream before using it!
  • Pour a generous amount of shaving cream on the area you want to create in.
  • Flatten and spread the shaving cream out with your hands.
  • Draw away!
  • Optional: Add food coloring to experiment with different colors.
  • Optional: Use different utensils to make interesting patterns in the shaving cream!

If you don’t enjoy the feeling of shaving cream on your hands, that’s okay! There are different utensils you can use instead of your fingers to draw. Try using the eraser end of a pencil!

Think about: What does the shaving cream feel like? What kind of texture do I feel like I touch the shaving cream? What can I draw in the shaving cream? What words can I write? If you’re using food dye, what happens when you add color to the shaving cream? What happens when you mix two different colors together?

Create your own games: How fast can you write all the letters of the alphabet? How many words can you spell correctly in a minute? You can draw a picture and have someone try and guess what it is! The possibilities are endless.
