Symmetry Monster

Team GCM member Emily explains what symmetry is and teaches us how to make a symmetry monster! Follow along to practice your symmetry skills and make a symmetry monster! Then go on a symmetry scavenger hunt to find symmetrical objects in your surroundings!

Materials:

  • Paper
  • Paint
  • Markers
  • Googly eyes
  •  Other craft supplies

Directions:

  1. Fold your piece of paper in half vertically. This will create our line of symmetry.
  2. Open your paper up and lay it on a table. Drop paint on only one side of the line of symmetry. Then, fold your paper in half again and smush the paint around.
  3. Open your paper back up and allow your painting to dry. Can you find any lines of symmetry?
  4. When your painting is dry, take your marker, googly eyes, any other craft supplies, and your imagination and turn your painting into a monster!
