Social Emotional Learning Quilt

Team GCM member, Alexis, is here to teach you how to make your own EQ Quilt by expressing your emotions through colors! This is a creative way for you and your kiddo to record your emotions every day!

Materials Needed:

  • Printed out 9 patchwork quilt sheet, colored paper, fabric, or whatever you would like to use to make your quilt. You can find free quilt printables here, here, and here
  • Colored markers, crayons, or colored pencils
  • Tape or glue
  • Scissors

Tracking your daily emotions is just one technique used in social and emotional learning (SEL). So what exactly is SEL? SEL is the cognitive development of the skills needed to recognize and manage emotions, develop care and concern for others, make responsible decisions, establish and maintain positive relationships, and handle interpersonal situations effectively.

There is no right or wrong way to create an EQ Quilt! What is important is that every day, you take the time to reflect and put words to your emotions. Doing this will make your quilt represent you as accurately as possible. Emotions are like a patchwork quilt, all of your emotions are pieced together to make up the whole you
