Dr. Seuss’s Horse Museum & Activity Sheet

Dr. Seuss’s Horse Museum introduced us to all the ways artists see horses! Some artists see color. Some see the shape. Others see speed. What do you see? Remember, with art there’s no right or wrong way to create a horse. Your horse can look as it does outside in the natural world or it can be abstract and just be a few lines and color. It’s all up to you!

Art Steps:

  1. Gather your materials! Find crayons, markers, paint, colored pencils, or some pens! Be sure to find paper too or print out the downloadable GCM at Home activity sheet.
  2. Now, close your eyes and imagine a horse. What does it look like?
  3. Start drawing or painting!
  4. Try different styles, just like we saw in the book! Can you create a horse using bright colors and exaggerated brushstrokes just like the expressionists? Can you make a horse just using shapes?
  5. Hang up your artwork just like in the Horse Museum!
  6. Don’t forget to take a picture and with an adult’s permission, share your creation with us!
