How are you and your family celebrating this New Year? Join GCM Team Member, Bridgette, as she shows you 3 fun and easy activities you can do to bring in the new year at home!

Firework Ring

Materials:

  • 3 pipe cleaners
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. Using your scissors, cut the pipe cleaners in half to make 6 pieces of equal length
  2. Gather 5 of the pieces and make a loop that fits around your finger
  3. Use the sixth piece to wrap around the other pieces to secure them together
  4. Pull the pieces apart to form the shape of a firework burst
  5. Show off your new bling to celebrate the New Year

Confetti Popper

Materials:

  • 1 cardboard tube
  • 1 balloon, tape
  • Scissors
  • Confetti

Directions:

  1. Use your scissors to cut the middle of the balloon. Make sure to leave enough of the balloon to fit over the opening of the cardboard tube. Tie a knot on the end of the balloon.
  2. Cover one end of the cardboard tube with the balloon. Secure the balloon in place with tape.
  3. Load the confetti into the opening of the balloon. Pull back on the balloon knot and release!

*If you don’t have confetti, you can easily make some! Cut pieces of tissue paper or lightweight paper to use as confetti.

Firework Art

Materials:

  • 1 cardboard tube
  • Paper
  • Paint in various colors
  • Paper plate
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. Use your scissors to cut slits around one end of the cardboard tube (about 2 inches in length). Bend the pieces back, so it looks like a flower.
  2. Squeeze paint on the paper plate. Dip the “flower” end of the cardboard tube into the paint and then “stamp” it onto the paper. This will create an image of a firework. Add as many fireworks to your paper as you would like
  3. Let the artwork dry. Hang to display inside your home for your viewing pleasure.
