Hackathon Jr. is a coding event for children ages 9-13. The event includes workshops, mentors, and a coding competition. Participants have the chance to win scholarships! Coding experience is not required to participate. Coders will be divided into groups based on experience level. In the morning, each group will participate in a workshop for their appropriate experience level. Snacks and lunch will be provided. In the afternoon, teams will compete against others at the same experience level. We will use coding language and curriculum from Code.org. Please bring your own tablet or laptop.

A Beginner coder may have zero exposure to coding, lacks understanding of some common language features, design patterns, algorithms, data structures, etc.
An Intermediate coder understands all the code they work with, though might not be familiar with the most advanced features.
An Advanced coder is familiar with why something went wrong, what’s going on in the language, computer, and compiler to cause the issue and symptoms. Has a functional knowledge of all language features knowing how to properly use them.
