It’s all about coding, robotics, & tech!
From December 1-8, kids will be coding, practicing computational thinking, tinkering with robotics, and learning through narrative play at Glazer Children’s Museum. The week will be jam-packed with robust programs curated to advance skills for children growing up in the Imagination Generation. Geek Week at GCM celebrates the Hour of Code, a global movement coordinated by Code.org reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries, and kicks off Computer Science Education Week.
- Friday, December 1, 10:30am-12:30pm: Geek Week Kick-off & Media Preview
Who doesn’t want to play with robots? It’s a great way to ignite curiosity in children (and grown-ups!). Code our Code-a-pillar, draw a path for the Ozobot, drive Sphero, meet our Dinobot, and experience our motion-capture SMALLab. Watch Botsy, a large vertical printer, draw a mural on the wall! Interview kids who are learning to code and tinkering with robots. Be the first to experience your own personalized Museum adventure with our new custom app, which is launching that day, developed with psychology professors and students from the University of Tampa. We will also unveil a new mixed-media art piece that was generously provided by an anonymous donor to be displayed in GCM’s Gadget Garage. This is a day that cannot be missed!
- Saturday, December 2, 10am-2pm: Un-Make It!
Bring in old toys and small electronics or dissect the ones we provide to see what’s inside and discover how it works. We will safely recycle everything afterward.
- Sunday, December 3, 1pm-6pm (GCM Member Morning 10am-1pm) Code-a-thon
GCM welcomes Everybody Code Now! for game development and coding programs every hour in GCM’s Gadget Garage.
- Monday, December 4 through Friday, December 10: Coding & tech programming daily!
Families can join us for a variety of digital and analog coding and tech activities all week, from programs through Code.org to custom experiences in our innovative SMALLab motion-capture lab… curiosity and learning abound!
