Earth Day Storytime & Craft

Team GCM is celebrating our wonderful planet Earth today! Listen to a special storytime of The Earth and I, dance along to our Planet Party Playlist on Spotify or relax with our Earthy tunes while you color our smiley Earth activity sheet, and create an upcycled planter out of using the steps below! Happy Earth Day!

Upcycled Planters

Materials Needed:

  • Tin Can(s)
  • Recycled Materials such as bottle caps, pull tabs, colorful cardboard, and more!
  • Hot Glue Gun (and an adult’s supervision!)
  • Nail and Hammer
  • Optional: soil, seeds, and water

Instructions:

  1. Begin by thoroughly washing and drying your recycled materials. Remove all labels from your tin cans.
  2. Have an adult use the hammer and nail to create three holes at the bottom of your can. This is so water can drain out.
  3. Use the hot glue gun to glue materials onto your can to decorate. I created a face, but you could also create a pattern, a mosaic, or just place your materials around the can!
  4. Once your can is decorated, add soil to the inside of the can. Plant your seed and add some water. Set it outside so that it absorbs some sunlight!
